My Moon, Chapter 14 pg 1

  Chapter 14:

Every Wednesday, Klai has early morning classes. He has to wake up extra early to get ready. But this Wednesday morning, the traffic was worse than usual. When Klai came down from his room to drive to class, he saw a long line of cars stuck on the road. So, he decided to put his car keys back in his bag and walked to catch a motorcycle taxi near the condo to get to the university as quickly as possible.

In just twenty minutes, the motorcycle taxi driver dropped Klai off at the university’s front gate. The small guy got off, took off the helmet to return it to the driver, handed over some cash, and hurriedly walked into the lecture building.

   LINE -

The sound of a LINE notification rang out, paired with a sweet smile spreading across his face. As he pulled his phone out of his favorite yellow cloth bag, Klai playfully guessed that, at this early hour, there was only one person who’d message him.

   And that person was…

   P. Panli: At uni yet?

   glaijai: Just got here ~

   glaijai: sent a sticker

The small guy sent a sticker of a beaming rabbit to his “best friend” while stepping onto the escalator. Today, Moon messaged him early in the morning as usual, even though they’d stayed up late chatting the night before. But he’d once said that no matter how late he stayed up, Panli would always wake up at seven in the morning every day. Since that day when he went to cheer for Moon at his soccer match, their relationship had progressed by leaps and bounds.

That night when Moon drove him back to the condo, he suddenly asked to be “friends.” Klai agreed, but he was afraid of being stuck in the “friend zone,” unable to ever move beyond it. So, that same night, he asked to skip a step and become “close friends” instead, and Moon agreed as well.

For Klai, the term “close friend” still held the potential to grow into something more than just a friend.

But if they were just friends… he might be trapped in the friend zone forever.

After becoming close friends, they talked a lot more, exchanging opinions on all sorts of things. Klai felt like they got to know each other better through texts and sometimes through voice.

Yes… late at night, when Moon was too sleepy to type, he’d call to talk instead of texting.

Over the past two days, Klai had been talking to Moon so much it felt like a dream. Even though they hadn’t met up at all—both of them were so busy, and he had to practice the khim, so he couldn’t sneak a peek at Moon on the fourth floor—the constant chats from evening to late at night made the longing that used to hit Klaijai so hard fade away.

Now, it couldn’t touch him anymore.

Because Klaijai had Moon protecting him.

   :)

   P. Panli: Last night, KhunKlai, you said you like going to the movies alone, right?

The small person furrowed their brows slightly, recalling our conversation from last night, before nodding a little and typing a reply.

glaijai: Yup, I often go to the movies alone, but I’ve been busy lately, so I haven’t gone in a while.

   P. Panli: Ohh.

   P. Panli: Going to the movies alone… doesn’t it feel lonely?

   glaijai: Not lonely at all.

glaijai: But last night, Panli said you don’t like going to the theater, right?

   P. Panli: Yup, Li doesn’t really like watching movies at the theater. I prefer watching at home.

   glaijai: Homebody, ~

   P. Panli: Also attached to friends.

   P. Panli: But only close friends, okay? That’s the only kind I’m getting attached to.

Klai suppressed a smile as he walked toward the classroom. Even though he knew Moon had many close friends, since one of those close friends included “Klaijai,” he allowed himself to think that Moon was also attached to him.

glaijai: I believe you is really attached to your close friends, that’s for sure.

Dropping little hints day by day…

   Eventually, he’ll catch on, right?

   P. Panli: I’ve been chatting with you all day and night like this.

   P. Panli: If you don’t believe it, I would be pretty upset.

glaijai: So good at being dramatic.

   P. Panli: If I’m this good at being dramatic, you have to be just as good at cheering me up, okay?

glaijai: I’m usually not great at cheering people up, but from now on, I’ll try to get really good at it.

   P. Panli: Honestly… no need to practice. Just give me those sparkly eyes, and I’m already over it.

The small person smiled softly while reading the other’s messages. Klai stopped in front of the classroom, where none of his classmates had arrived yet. He was always the first to show up. Klai tapped on the keyboard to send a reply.

glaijai: Just sparkly eyes, huh, Panli? Then he raised the phone to his lips, recording a voice message. “I don’t have to say… ‘there, there,’ to Panli, Panli of mine, do I?”

   glaijai: sent a voice

His voice message was opened almost instantly, and the reply that came back made Klai chuckle softly because it showed…

Moon was probably already a little swayed.

   P. Panli: You little rascal.

Klai believed… if he got better at this,

It wouldn’t be long before Klaijai could shake Moon’s heart even more.

As much as he wanted to keep chatting with Moon, Klai had to hold back because he needed to prepare for class. So, he typed a message to say goodbye.

glaijai: Panli, I need to go get ready now.

glaijai: The professor for this class is super strict, so I have to check my uniform before they come to inspect.

   P. Panli: Okay, you little rascal.

   P. Panli: Same as always, right?

Klaijai smiled to himself before sending a message to confirm, making it clear that “we’re on the same page.”

glaijai: Focus on studying as usual, right?

   P. Panli: Right.

   glaijai: sent a sticker

Klai sent a sticker of a wide-eyed rabbit with the word “OK” on its long ears to Moon. Not long after, the other replied with another message.

   P. Panli: If you still have some time, don’t forget to grab something to eat before class, okay?

   glaijai: Sounds good!

   P. Panli: Little troublemaker, you got this!

   glaijai: sent a sticker

After sending a sticker of a fluffy white rabbit nodding slightly to Moon, Klai locked his phone and walked to the locker outside the classroom. For the in-flight service course, all items had to be stored in the locker—especially communication devices like iPads, tablets, and, most crucially, phones. Phones were strictly prohibited in the classroom unless the instructor permitted them for specific reasons, like presentations or researching lesson content.

Though this course had a ton of rules and the instructor was super strict, Klai loved it. It felt like working on an actual flight. The classroom, or what the aviation faculty called the “Mock-up” room, was designed to replicate an airplane cabin. Everything was so realistic, it was as if he were serving passengers on a real plane.

Since the course involved a lot of hands-on practice, not using a phone for the two-hour duration wasn’t boring. Still, Klai noticed some classmates sneaking their phones in. When caught, they’d lose attitude points. Seeing such examples, someone like him—who valued every point like it was a diamond—didn’t dare break the rules.

   Even though Moon once said…

“With me, you gotta break every rule.”

When it comes to class rules… Klaijai would rather make an exception, Moon.

The small guy stopped in front of a large locker with about twenty or so compartments. Each small, square metal door had a number label. The instructor let everyone in the class choose a regular locker for their belongings. Klai picked locker number ten since it was at eye level, so he wouldn’t have to bend down to store his stuff.

His slender hand reached to open the metal door to put his cloth bag and phone inside. But two items already in there made Klai frown in curiosity. He picked up a bottle of milk and a cream-filled bun.

Though other section mates shared the locker with him, Klai was certain these weren’t theirs. The condensation droplets on the chocolate milk bottle confirmed it…

   This chocolate milk

Had probably come out of a fridge not long ago.

It definitely wasn’t left in the locker overnight.
