Pitbabe S2, Chapter 12 pg4

 Pitbabe S2, Chapter 12 pg4

While I was figuring out what to do with our test subject problem, the meeting room door swung open. In walked Jeff, Charlie’s poker-faced little brother, followed by Alan, carrying two big bags of takeout.

“There you go,” I pointed at the kid who just walked in. “Inject Jeff instead.”

“Inject what?” Before the target could ask anything, his boyfriend cut in first. Alan acted like an overprotective parent, treating every little thing about his “kid” like a national crisis.

“The dissolving drug,” I answered. “Charlie can’t handle it anymore. We need a new test subject.”

   “Sure.”

   “No way!”

Jeff agreed easily, but his brother and boyfriend shot him down in the next second, both Charlie and Alan speaking firmly in unison. Their reactions were as intense as I’d expected, especially Alan’s. He didn’t just oppose my idea—he glared at me like he wanted to shake my head off my shoulders.

“What’s the big deal? It’s just an injection,” Jeff said lazily, clearly fed up with the overprotective antics of his Phii and lover. He was both pitiful and annoying at the same time. I wouldn’t say I’m jealous of the kid, but I can’t deny a tiny pang of envy that he’s surrounded by people ready to shield him like that. That feeling? I can’t even remember if I’ve ever felt it myself. “Don’t be so dramatic.”

“I’m not letting you do it,” Alan said to Jeff, his face dead serious.

“What, you’re ordering me around now?”

Alan went silent, and the rest of the room held their breath. I glanced at Charlie. He looked at me, his face practically screaming, Here’s the real boss. No matter how firmly Charlie objected, it didn’t seem to matter. If Jeff was set on doing it, no one could stop him—not even Alan, his lover, could argue.

“Jeff,” Alan said, his voice low. He sighed, set the two big bags of food on the table by the door, and turned to face his younger boyfriend with obvious worry. I bet his head was swirling with harsh, cutting words right now, but because it was Jeff, a coward like Alan would never dare say them out loud. “It’s dangerous. We don’t even know what side effects the drug might have.”

“Dangerous how?” Jeff frowned, looking at his boyfriend like he didn’t get it. I could tell he was a bit irritated that Alan seemed to be trying to control him. Even though I’m not close to Jeff, I can see he’s not the type to be under anyone’s thumb, not even the most important person in his life. “Charlie’s been getting injected this whole time and hasn’t died, has he?”

“The other versions were fine, but how can we be sure this one’s safe too?”

“Uh… I don’t know if this helps, but before we used it on people, we tested it on monkeys,” I interjected, and my comment earned me another death glare from Alan. Looks like I’ve officially become his enemy. “At least we’re sure it won’t kill you.”

Whatever, it’s not like I’m dying to be his friend.

“And what gives you the right to tell this or that person to get injected?” Alan snapped at me, his face red with anger, jaw clenched tight. This was probably the first time he’s spoken to me directly like this, but sadly, it’s a first that’s far from impressive.

“Phii Alan,” Jeff turned to calm his boyfriend, seeing the situation was about to blow up more than it should.

“I didn’t say anyone had to get injected. I just suggested it, and Jeff said it was okay,” I shrugged, unfazed by the other guy’s rage or the possibility he might lunge at me. Honestly, seeing Alan like that only made it more fun for me. Provoking people is my favorite game, especially when the target is the calm, composed type. Nothing’s more satisfying than turning a rock into molten lava. “If I could inject myself, I would’ve, but I’m just an ordinary guy, like you. Injecting me would just waste the drug.”

It was clear Alan was holding back with everything he had—those bulging veins on his temple said it all. But being the adult, he chose to storm out of the room instead of arguing further. His maturity disappointed me a bit, but getting someone like him so mad he had to walk away was still a decent outcome.

“Thanks a lot,” Jeff said sarcastically before following Alan out, looking irritated.

“My pleasure,” I replied with a smug smile. Even though they were gone, the others in the room exchanged looks before slowly dispersing, realizing no one was getting injected today.

Uncle Touch shook his head at me, clearly exasperated by my behavior, but he knew there was nothing he could do. So, he just sighed and walked off with Liu. Charlie’s expression wasn’t much different. He stood up and walked past me. I didn’t feel bad about breaking up the group—just a tiny bit of regret that it ended too quickly.

Thought I’d get to see more of a fight.

   These people are so boring.

   BABE:

   “Want some?”

Kim sat down on the chair next to me with a plate of food in hand. Since arriving at Phii Alan’s place, I haven’t seen this Korean guy empty-handed. It’s always a plate or a glass, food or drink glued to him like a new limb. Makes me wonder if Phii Alan’s spoiling these guys too much. The monthly food bill must be brutal, especially when it’s a team member’s birthday. Even their regular eating probably drains Phii Alan’s account to scraps. So, just imagine how crazy it is today.

But it’s Pitbabe’s birthday. If we don’t go all out, it’d be a disgrace.

“What?” I glanced away from my phone screen to the white plate Kim placed on the table in front of me.
