Pitbabe S2, Chapter 16 pg4

 Pitbabe S2, Chapter 16 pg4

Charlie seemed to lose himself for a moment.

   “No…”

But then, he snapped back to his senses.

He pushed me away gently, still catching his breath from the emotions that had flared up, but he could do nothing but restrain himself.

“This won’t do… not like this.”

   Charlie is really strong-willed.

Even though I wouldn’t have minded if he wanted to go all the way, his reason outweighed his physical desires. So, Charlie chose to nudge me out of the room, whispering without looking at me, “I’m not walking you down,” before shutting the door in my face.

Instead of being angry, I found it more amusing than I expected.

This must be what it’s like to break up as lovers—angry, heartbroken, but the moment you’re close, everything seems to fall into place, igniting easily and fitting perfectly. You know you should stay apart, but you crave each other so much.

I looked down at my hands, still feeling the touch of his damp hair. Without thinking, I brought them to my nose, catching the faint scent of his shampoo. Just as I thought, it still felt like Charlie. Even though he was on the other side of the door, my body still sensed the warmth of his tight embrace.

Looks like I’ve got another reason to lie awake tonight.

   CHARLIE:

Today, I woke up earlier than usual. My alarm was set for 9:00 AM, but I jolted awake at 7:30 and couldn’t force myself back to sleep. So, I went for an early morning run. After sweating it out, I came back, showered, and settled downstairs to work. The others trickled in around 9:30. Phii Touch arrived first, as always, followed by Liu like clockwork. And, of course, the last was Dr. Chris, the oddball who isn’t late because he oversleeps or takes forever to get ready but chooses to arrive last, believing early birds are losers.

While I was editing a video for the next campaign’s promotion, Liu, in a pastel green dress, started circling my desk. At first, I tried to ignore her, but since she showed no signs of stopping, I had to tear my eyes from my work to face the fortune-teller stirring up trouble this early.

   “What?” I asked, voice flat.

“What’d you do last night?” Liu pointed at me, her face as neutral as ever, but her demeanor screamed confidence that something happened, even though I hadn’t breathed a word to anyone.

“Huh?” I should’ve lowered my tone and kept my eyes from widening, but it was too late. Liu caught my slip the second our eyes met. “Do what? Nothing.”

   “Who’d you bring over?”

   What the hell is this?

   How does Liu know?!

“What?” As I scrambled for an excuse, the last person I wanted to see in this situation walked through the door. Dr. Chris strolled in with a fancy coffee cup, joining the conversation with a nosy grin. “What’re we talking about?”

   “Nothing…”

“Charlie brought someone to the lab last night,” Liu said, not giving me a chance to defend myself, turning to report to the troublemaker himself.

“Ooh!” As expected, the quirky doctor’s eyes lit up instantly. Dr. Chris grinned mischievously at me before teasing, “Barely single and already at it, huh?”

“Right?” The little fortune-teller nodded enthusiastically, her ponytail swishing, and for the first time, I had the urge to tug at a girl’s hair, but I held myself back.

“Sneakier than I thought. Now I get why you lasted with Babe.”

“You’re all getting carried away. I didn’t bring anyone,” I insisted, sticking to my original answer. Even if it was a lie, this was easier than explaining everything from start to finish. I didn’t have the time, and I didn’t want to dive into details about Babe for others to hear. Let it end with last night—that’s for the best. “Liu’s just making it up. Don’t believe her too much, Chris.”

“Making it up? Don’t you dare discredit me,” Liu narrowed her eyes, pointing at me accusingly for accidentally undermining her visions, clairvoyance, or whatever supernatural energy she claimed to have.

“I sensed it the moment you walked in. You had sex last night.”

“Wow,” Dr. Chris covered his mouth, eyes wide, giving me one of the reactions I hated most.

“Sex? What sex? No way, are you crazy?”

   “No, but almost.”

The more Liu talked, the more I felt cornered. I don’t believe in astrology, mysticism, fate, or the gods Liu reveres, but her predictions have genuinely given me chills more than once. I’ve tried to find scientific explanations, like debunking a magic trick, but so far, I’ve got nothing. It’s just this fortune-teller catching me out harder every day.

“Oh, he’s not denying it!” Not just the fortune-teller doctor, but the actual doctor piled on too. Dr. Chris seemed to be having a blast watching Liu expose my secrets. Trust me, even if I told him, “I was with Babe last night,” he wouldn’t be this shocked. He’s just enjoying how flustered I am.

“Why do you guys care if I did or didn’t?”
