 Pitbabe S2, Chapter 32 pg 2

But if this is the way to destroy Babe, I probably don’t need to understand it, do I? Just follow the game Tony has laid out, and everything will turn out the way I want. I believe that.

“So… what should we do with Babe now, sir?”

“Nothing,” the boss replies with his usual calm demeanor. “Let him play the game he’s set up. The one we need to focus on now is Charlie.”

“Should I send someone to threaten him again, sir? This time with the…”

   “Bring him in.”

His tone is so icy it sends chills down my spine. He doesn’t need to elaborate or waste words. I fully grasp the weight of that short sentence: if we fail this time, the first to die won’t be them.

“We’ve got enough information. Squeezing more won’t yield much. We don’t have time to move pawns anymore.”

I’ve played chess before, too. It’s one of the games I hate because it’s way too boring—boring gameplay, boring opponents. Even though I understand the rules, I never felt much desire to win. What’s so impressive about capturing the other side’s pieces? My win rate in that game is pretty low, too, so I find it completely uninteresting.

But what does Tony mean by “pawns”?

“This is the riskiest move, but we have to take the gamble.”

So, Babe is the pawn, and Charlie is the king?

That’s weird. I always thought Babe was the king.

“You only get one shot. Catch the big one.”

   SONIC:

“Still practicing?” I asked North, who was sprawled out on the sofa. He’d been at the garage for a while but was just lying there watching TV instead of getting ready to train. Looks like the fire he had earlier was starting to fizzle out.

“Just a sec, Coach Sonic,” North replied lazily, rapidly flipping through TV channels as if searching for something. I had no idea why some TV show was more important than his training, but if the racer was feeling lazy, why should I force him? It’s not like I had any stake in it.

North’s channel-surfing stopped when he found what he was looking for—a news program hosted by a familiar male anchor. I was a bit surprised that North cared about current events. Usually, he’s only into gaming, his YouTube channel, and racing. But the news being reported had nothing to do with any of that.

Phii Alan and Dean, who’d just finished testing a new car, walked into the garage and plopped down on the sofa. They were still discussing Dean’s new car, which seemed to need more tuning. It looked like Phii Alan and the mechanics were in for a long day.

‘There’s always a buzz, isn’t there? The prince of the racing world has fully transitioned into a social activist. Some call him an activist, others just a social media star. He’s never argued either way, never defined himself, but has consistently pushed his causes with intensity. Even after being banned from social media before, he’s back now—and it seems he’s getting more serious by the day.’

Charlie’s story was a regular topic in the media. Every move he made was scrutinized—every blink, every breath seemed to carry meaning. Today was just another ordinary day when our little brother was the headline. Honestly, I follow Charlie’s updates through these news reports a lot myself. He’s so busy every day, I barely dare call to check in.

‘As we all know, Charlie is working on a project called Human 101, aimed at protecting, reclaiming, and safeguarding the rights of people with special senses. If I were to explain it from the start, it’d take up too much airtime. So, in short, this addresses issues stemming from the infamous human trafficking case involving Tony Chen three years ago. Charlie wants to give people with senses more choices and protect them from exploitation by those in power. That’s why he’s been organizing various campaigns, which we’ve seen a lot of lately.’

The room fell silent as we watched the TV, even though everything the reporter had said so far was already common knowledge. What truly gripped our attention was what came next.

‘Besides organizing campaigns and raising public awareness, researchers are also working on developing a drug to suppress special senses, offering an alternative for those with heightened senses who live under their limitations. The movement led by Charlie and his team has sparked a heated social debate. People are starting to question the existence of those with special senses and the government’s policies on the matter. This is precisely what’s caused the issue to spiral out of control, as Team 101 has exposed information about corruption and the abuse of power by the government, which, let me tell you, has left politicians squirming in their seats.’

‘But the main topics being discussed right now boil down to two or three key points. First, some people have started to notice that Charlie’s breakup with Babe, the number-one racer we all know so well, happened right around the same time as the launch of Charlie’s project. This has led to speculation: could the breakup be tied to differing ideologies? Perhaps Babe disagreed with Charlie’s stance? For those who might not remember, Babe is one of Tony Chen’s adopted children. Though no one has ever seen them together, there’s clear evidence that Tony Chen took Babe in when he was very young.’

“What the hell is this nonsense?” I couldn’t help but curse. Even though we’d been dragged through the mud countless times by baseless netizen speculation, I still couldn’t get used to it. Maybe I’m just not mature enough to accept these harsh truths. Unlike the other three in the room, who sat in complete silence, their faces so tense I started to wonder if we were just watching the news or secretly plotting something.

‘The second point is that, as everyone probably noticed, Charlie and Babe didn’t seem to be on good terms before. There were several incidents suggesting their relationship ended on a sour note. However, in the past few weeks, leaked photos of the two have been surfacing regularly, confirming they’ve been in contact and interacting as if everything’s normal. This has caused a split in online opinions. Some say the breakup was never real, just a publicity stunt from the start. Others claim they’ve reconciled, and Babe might have convinced Charlie to abandon the project. This speculation comes from the fact that Charlie has been almost absent from the media lately. People are now wondering if there’s been some compromise, a secret deal, or even hush money to settle things. Many still believe Babe has strong ties to the Chen family network, which continues to wield significant influence, even after the death of its founder, Tony Chen.’
