My Moon, Chapter 18.1 pg 3
My Moon, Chapter 18.1 pg 3
A relationship between two people is like planting a tree. You don’t need to tell anyone you’re planting it or explain the complex steps involved. Others aren’t interested when you’re sowing the seed, adding fertilizer, or watering it daily. They’re just cheering for it to grow, not helping it grow faster.
Letting the tree grow steadily with only your care is best. No need for others to have expectations or watch how it develops, whether it will bloom beautifully or not. Let them see the tree when it’s grown strong and stable. By then, you barely need to explain anything—they’ll understand it all on their own.
With this realization, Klai understood that no matter how much or how little their relationship changes, it’s ultimately just about the two of them. Only they truly know it, and only their feelings matter.
Today, Klai unlocked another layer of the feelings in his heart…
From now on, Moon better be ready.
Because a slightly braver Klaijai is about to step up his game…
Slide~
As the van pulled up next to a white van, the senior sitting by the door—Phii Dom—quickly slid it open, as if he couldn’t stand being in the vehicle any longer. He turned and nodded at Klai, signaling him to get out. Klai stood up and followed Phii Dom out of the van, glancing at Phii Real and Phii Hia, who were still arguing nonstop. On the way to Theerak’s house, the two had bickered the entire time, forcing the driver to stop so they could settle their debate about the route. Even now, as they got out and walked toward Phii Fah, they kept at it.
“Klai… let’s switch to Fah’s car, alright?”
Klai, standing with his backpack hugged to his chest, shifted his gaze from the arguing seniors and nodded at his brother. “Sure, Phii Dom.”
“I’ll go find Babe in the house first. Want to come with me, Klai?” Phii Dom asked.
Klai scanned the area for someone before answering his brother. Spotting Moon smoking under a large tree, he turned back and gave Phii Dom a smile.
“You go find Phii Babe, Phii Dom. I’ll take my bag to Phii Fah’s car first,” Klai said.
“Your backpack isn’t that big… you could just bring it with you,” Phii Dom replied.
“Uh…” Klai glanced between Moon and Phii Dom. Seeing this, Phii Dom nodded with a small smile.
“Oh… alright, go put your bag away,” Phii Dom said.
Klai smiled and said, “Okay.”
The small figure held back a grin, clutching his backpack tightly to his chest as he walked toward the tall figure smoking under the tree. When Moon saw him approaching, he quickly tossed the cigarette to the ground, crushed it with his foot to put it out, and walked to wait by the back of the white van.
Klai smiled to himself as he looked at Panli, who was dressed exceptionally well today. His hair was styled neatly as usual, and he wore an oversized white shirt with cream three-quarter pants and brown leather woven shoes. Others might think Moon’s outfit was ordinary, nothing special compared to his usual style.
But to Klai… when someone is your special person, even if they look ordinary to others, they’re still the most extraordinary in your eyes.
His steps stopped in front of the tall figure. Klai met Moon’s gaze, and as usual, the latter reached out to gently ruffle his hair before speaking in a soft tone.
“I thought KhunKlai would drive here himself. I was just about to call you,” Panli said.
“I was going to drive, but last night Phii Dom called and said it’s better to come together so we don’t have too many cars,” Klai explained.
“Oh…” Panli nodded in understanding, then scanned Klai from head to toe. He raised a finger in mock reprimand, putting on a stern face that Klai rarely saw. “Your shorts are a bit too short, you know.”
As expected… Puppy would definitely say something like this.
And of course… Klai knew exactly how to handle it.
“Even if the shorts don’t pass…” he said, loosening his grip on the brown backpack and holding it by his side instead, letting the other see the shirt he was wearing before continuing, “…this shirt passes, right?”
In that moment, the sunlight couldn’t compete with the bright smile on the face in front of him. The unfamiliar stern expression was replaced by the playful glint in Panli’s eyes that Klai knew so well. Panli probably wanted to scold him for wearing short shorts, having warned him about the strong sun at the beach. But in the end, Klai had worn them anyway.
Yet, seeing him proudly wearing a shirt from Once in a Blue Moon, Panli couldn’t bring himself to stay stern. He pointed at Klai with a suppressed smile.
“Nice save,” Panli said.
“I know your warning me because you’re worried, but don’t scold me, okay? I really love these shorts and want to wear them to the beach.”
“If it was just worry, I wouldn’t scold. But it’s because I’m possessive too… not just worried.”
“…”
The words “worry” and “possessive” might seem similar, but they’re completely different in meaning. Knowing full well what “possessive” meant, Klai was so embarrassed he couldn’t speak.
And because he just stood there silently, the taller person grabbed him by both hands, spun him around, and stared without breaking eye contact. Then, in a soft voice, as if speaking only to himself, he said, “It’s hard to accept, but I’ll try to come to terms with it because KhunKlai loves these shorts.”
“…”
If Panli hadn’t just admitted to being “possessive,” Klai might not have understood that sentence. But because the word “possessive” clarified the meaning, Klai realized that for someone so possessive, accepting something like this must be far from easy—truly difficult.
Klai was turned back to face the possessive person again. He gave a faint smile, meeting Moon’s eyes. He thought Panli hadn’t yet realized that this possessiveness had already surpassed the boundaries of “close friends.” But even if he hadn’t noticed, it was okay. At least now, Moon was openly admitting his feelings and saying them directly to him, not just muttering to himself like before.
It was a good sign.
All the little hints Klai had been dropping every day were starting to make Panli feel something beyond just “liking.”
“You are done inspecting. Do I pass?”
“No choice but to pass. You’re already wearing them, and you keep saying how much you love those shorts.”
Klai burst out laughing and said, “You’re checking my outfit like a teacher.”
“And between a teacher and me, who’s stricter?”
The smaller guy furrowed his brow, thinking. “Honestly… probably Panli.”
Panli grinned. “Of course. A teacher’s just doing their job. But doing it with feelings… that’s bound to be different.”
Sometimes Panli was so straightforward that Klai couldn’t keep up. Though he’d gotten much better at handling it, he had to admit he still wasn’t skilled enough to match Panli’s words. Those words were like bullets piercing his heart, leaving him frozen as if his soul had been snatched from his body.
“…”
“KhunKlai, want to bring your bag into the car or keep it in the trunk?”
And the one who revived his life was the same person who once ended it.
“I was going to put it in the trunk, but I changed my mind. Let’s bring it up with us instead,” Klaijai said.
“Okay,” Moon replied.
