My Moon, Chapter 20 pg 5
“Puppy’s more than a hundred percent confident.”
“…”
“Because there’s already one of my friends who keeps sneaking glances at you every morning.”
“Your friend?”
“Yup, a called to snitch on him a few days ago…”
“…”
“That guy’s got a bad habit of sneaking looks at KhunKlai… but to be honest, when Li was talking to Nay, I…”
“…”
“What a jerk.”
Klai burst out laughing before saying, “Panli… you don’t have to be that possessive of me.”
“…”
“Because besides this you … I have never looked at anyone else.”
The listener smiled faintly, then nuzzled his nose against Klai’s shoulder repeatedly. “I know…”
Right now, Moon was so adorable it was breaking his heart. Klai hadn’t expected him to be this clingy.
“But I don’t trust other people…”
“…”
Panli loosened his embrace, gently guiding Klai to stand up fully. Still a bit dazed, Klai was turned to face him, and then a strong arm pulled him back to straddle Panli’s sturdy lap once more.
Klai glanced down at his current position and wanted to get up quickly—it felt far too suggestive. But Panli’s soft, gentle voice calling his name made him look up. Slowly, Klai placed both his hands on the other’s chest.
Moon wrapped both arms around his waist as usual, then tightened the embrace even more. Panli gazed at him with a serious expression. They locked eyes for several minutes without either saying a word, until the one holding him spoke up in the next moment…
“KhunKlai…”
“Can you promise me… that from now on, if anyone tries to hurt you…”
“…”
“Whether physically or emotionally…”
“…”
“You’ll tell me…”
“…”
“And if possible… can you tell me before something bad happens to you?”
“…”
“Even if you just feel like someone’s thinking ill of you… that’s enough to tell me.”
“…”
“Because I don’t want anything bad to happen to you.”
“…”
“Do you remember what I promised you? ‘I’ll protect you.’”
Klai nodded slightly, “…”
“I still feel that way, always…” One large hand gently moved to cradle his cheek, then he continued, “…and today, there’s something else I want to tell you.”
“…”
“I’m always here for you, no matter what.”
Klai pressed his lips tightly together and nodded again. He deeply understood the meaning of the English words Li spoke. Klai quickly lowered his eyes to his own hands resting on the taller man’s chest, because suddenly, he felt a stinging sensation in his nose. He didn’t want Panli to see the tears welling up in his eyes. So, he wrapped both arms around the other, hugging him tightly, and rested his chin on the broad shoulder. Klai tried to swallow the lump of emotions in his throat along with the tears threatening to spill. But when the large hand moved to gently stroke his head…
The tears he’d been holding back…
Came pouring out in floods.
“Panli… I’m not crying,” Klai said while still hugging the other, secretly wiping the tears streaming down both cheeks with one hand.
“If you want to cry, you can cry…”
“…” More tears flowed when Moon said that.
“When you are with me… you can do anything,” he continued.
“…”
“But honestly, there’s one thing you can’t do…”
Klai furrowed his brow before pulling away from the hug. He wiped away the last traces of tears, then met the other’s gaze. “What’s that one thing, Sasin?”
The one questioned gave a faint smile, brushing aside the long bangs that were getting in Klai’s eyes before saying, “Calling me Sasin like that… is you being all cute and clingy, huh?”
Klai shook his head in denial. “I just want to know so I won’t do it… I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”
“That one thing is… you can’t like me any less.”
The gentle Sasit’s answer made Klai grin so wide his eyes squinted, before he wrinkled his nose at him. “That… I’d never do.”
“So cheeky,” Panli said, biting his own lip.
Klai pressed his lips together to hold back a smile. As he locked eyes with the other, he felt the urge to say something. He gazed deeply into those bright eyes, shining like moonlight every night.
“Thank you, thank you for being Panli, for being Sasin, for being Moon, for being Puppy…” He paused, feeling a sting in his nose again, then laughed to cover the emotions he’d held in his heart for so long. At this moment, Panli shouldn’t see his tears—they should see each other’s smiles instead. Once he was sure no more tears would well up, Klai continued, “Thank you for being everything to this Klaijai.”
Panli smiled—a smile Klai had never seen before, one that conveyed the word “gladly.” This smile surely meant, “Gladly, I’ll be everything for you.” He took one hand to hold Klai’s while the other still supported his back. Klai glanced down at his own hand, which the other was gently stroking, before meeting Moon’s eyes.
“If I can be more than everything… I will be that for you.”
Klai thought that if anyone else said this, it might sound a bit exaggerated. But when Panli said it, the words felt entirely genuine.
“Being this much is already more than enough.”
