My Moon, Chapter 31 pg 5

“When is you going to promote Panli to boyfriend status?”

“Why are you meddling in the kids’ business?” Mom teased.

“I’m just asking so I can remind our people. I’m not rushing Klaijai or anything,” Dad said.

Klai smiled and said, “New Year’s, Dad... I’m planning to promote Panli to boyfriend then.”

“Isn’t that a bit soon, my dear Klai? Maybe wait another couple of years?” Mom suggested.

   “Mom~”

The person beside him whined, so Klai reached out to pat his cheek to comfort him. “Don’t pout, little pup... Mom’s just teasing.”

“I know that... but I’m worried about your heart,” Panli said.

“And if I really make you wait another two years, what will you do?”

Panli made a sulky face before saying, “I’ll wait. I’ll wait.”

Klai smiled and wrinkled his nose at him. “Good boy.”

“That’s the one... the one who’s got Panli completely wrapped around his finger,” Mom said.

“Muen has been waiting for that chubby puppy for so long, Pan…”

   “…”

“And Muen only just became the chubby puppy’s boyfriend a few days ago.”

   “Pa, I know.”

“You know, but you’re still a bit impatient, aren’t you, Pan?”

“Impatient like who, hmm?” Ma asked.

   “Like me… I know…”

   “…”

“That’s why I have to warn Panli first.”

Though Klai didn’t fully understand what Pa was talking about, he could sense it was something quite important to Pa. Everyone fell silent before Pa spoke again…

   “We’re all grown up now…”

   “…”

“Pa thinks we can talk about this. It’s not something to be embarrassed about.”

   “…”

“And it’s not something we need to hide from each other. We just bring it up when it’s appropriate, that’s all.”

   “…”

“You two haven’t done anything yet, right?”

   Cough, cough

   “Pa!”

At that moment, Klai choked hard on his food, and Panli quickly reached for a glass of water to hand to him. Klai gulped the water down, glancing at Pa, who was holding back a smile. Ma sighed and smacked Pa’s arm.

Okay… Klai knew Pa was honest and straightforward like Panli, but he didn’t expect Pa to be this direct, without even a hint of subtlety. And the son, a chip off the old block, nearly made him choke on his water again.

   “Not yet, Pa… but almost.”

   “Hey, puppy…”

“No need to be shy, Klaijai. Me, Muen, and Pan talk about these things normally.”

   “…”

“The kids in this house can talk to their parents about anything.”

   “…”

“Klaijai, you can talk to me about anything from now on, just like family. Even though me and Ma will return to Hong Kong, if you ever need advice, you can call anytime.”

Klai nodded and said, “Thank you, Pa…”

“So, shall we continue that conversation?”

“You’re still going on about it, dear? Poor Little Klai is already embarrassed,” Ma said.

“Alright, I will stop… I just wanted to make things clear.”

   “…”

“Because otherwise, you two might misunderstand and think me forbidding everything.”

   “…”

“Honestly, I understand that when people in love are together, things can spark easily.”

“If it’s just about appearances, like Papa said, I can manage… I’ll let it slide.”

“But tone it down a bit.”

   “…”

“And if I can’t tone it down, Papa?”

Papa sighed before saying, “Panli, don’t be like me when I was young—going overboard.”

“Come on… you haven’t even toned down yet, so how can you expect Pan to do it?”

   “...”

“Dear… you have to cherish Klaijai a lot, okay?” Mama said.

“I love KhunKlai so much… of course I cherish him, Ma. But sometimes…”

   “Puppy… that’s enough.”

“Mama’s going to faint… this is the dining table, and we shouldn’t be having this kind of topic.”

Papa laughed before saying, “Alright, enough… before Mama and Klaijai get even more embarrassed.”

   “…”

   “So, it’s settled then, Pan.”

“Yes… except for the toning down part, Papa.”

Papa shook his head and didn’t respond. “…”

Klai turned to look at the big puppy who was getting more mischievous by the minute, then raised his index finger in warning. Feeling deeply embarrassed and at a loss for words, all he could do was rein in the other party with a stern look.
