Chapter 33:
Panli stopped by earlier to talk with Fah. He said he’s taking Theerak up to the rooftop to watch fireworks later.
“…”
“Once you are done watching fireworks with Panli, hurry back to meet me behind the stage, okay?”
“Okay, Phii Dom… By the way, does Phii Fah know about our plan yet?”
“Not yet… I haven’t told Fah.”
“…”
“Panli will catch on.”
“Miss Babe said not to tell Phii Fah yet, because Phii Fah might tell Theerak, and if Theerak knows about this surprise plan, he’ll get so excited he’ll give it away. Then Panli will…”
“Oh… so that means Phii Fah and Theerak will only find out about the plan to ask Panli to be your boyfriend after Klai is already on stage, right?”
“No… both of them will know about it before Klai goes on stage. Because Real, who knows the whole plan and is arranging the venue, will call everyone involved in this plan for a meeting.”
“Sounds good.”
“And Klai, you’ve already called Panli’s friends, right?”
“Yes, I called and told Ne to invite all the friends to the event. They’ll wait behind the shop first, and once I call again, they’ll come inside.”
“Great, great. Then we’ll call Panli’s friends later.”
“Yes, Phii Dom.”
The conversation between Klai and his older brother replayed in my head as the sound of fireworks rang out. In the next moment, a multitude of fireworks lit up the dark sky. Klai turned his gaze from the vast sky, adorned with twinkling lights, to look at his lover sitting beside him. He didn’t know how long Panli had been secretly watching him, but Klai knew one thing…
There was never a time when either of them could look away from the other for long, because we’ve both been stealing glances at each other for so long.
“Klaijai…”
“Yes…”
“The fireworks are beautiful… but not as beautiful as your eyes.”
Klai gave a small smile before wrinkling his nose at the other. “I can never get used to… puppy’s compliments.”
“We’ll be together for a long time. you will get used to it,” Panli said, nuzzling his cheek without caring about the other seniors sitting at the table.
Today was the New Year’s celebration party at Phii Fah’s shop. Most of the attendees were Phii Fah’s close friends, and in the evening, elders like Aunt, Mama, and Theerak’s family joined the celebration.
After the elders left, the rest of them stayed at the party. Meanwhile, Klai, who had been planning with Phii Dom to ask Panli to be his boyfriend on New Year’s, was starting to put the plan into motion…
As the final firework faded from the dim sky, Klai spoke up, “Panli, I’m going to call Dad for a bit. I need to discuss something with him.”
“Want me to come with you?”
“No need, Panli. Just stay here.”
“Okay… don’t go too far, alright? I’m worried.”
“Mm…”
As soon as he responded, Klaijai stood up from the long table and quickly walked out of the area, heading straight to the backstage as arranged with his older brother. Upon reaching the backstage, Klaijai saw Phii Dom, Phii Babe, Phii Real, and Phii Hia standing and chatting. Phii Dom, who shifted his gaze from the conversation and noticed him, spoke up…
“Klaijai’s here.”
Klaijai nodded in acknowledgment and walked to stand beside his brother’s partner. “…”
“Okay…” Phii Real turned to look at him before saying, “Klaijai, have you called Panli’s friends yet?”
“Not yet, Phii Real. Klaijai was going to ask Phii Dom first about when to call them.”
“Then go ahead and call Pan’s friends now.”
“Yes, Phii Real.”
Klaijai responded while pulling his phone out of his pants pocket. He dialed Ne and waited for the other to pick up…
[What’s up, KhunKlai?]
“Ne, you can bring the friends into the shop now.”
[Okay, got it.]
“Klaijai… tell Li’s friends to come in through the back of the shop,” Phii Real said.
Klaijai nodded before speaking to the person on the line, “Ne, come in through the back of the shop, okay?”
[Alright, got it.]
Once Ne confirmed, Klaijai hung up and slipped the phone back into his pocket. Initially, Klaijai thought he wouldn’t be too nervous. But now, his heart was starting to beat irregularly, and sweat was beginning to bead on his face.
“Nervous, Klaijai?” Phii Babe asked.
Klaijai nodded hesitantly and answered honestly, “Yes, Phii Babe. Klaijai’s starting to get nervous now.”
“Even Phii Hia is nervous, so how could you not be, Klaijai?”
“You’re getting nervous along with everyone, you red soda,” Phii Real teased while looking down at his phone, seemingly texting someone, before continuing, “Fah and Theerak are coming down from the rooftop now.”
“Okay, okay,” Phii Dom responded.
“No need to be nervous, Klaijai. Just do your best like you practiced,” Phii Babe said, reaching out to rub his arm for encouragement.
Klaijai nodded. “Yes, Phii Babe.”
