 Pitbabe S2, Chapter 35 pg 2

   “What do you mean, changed?”

“Everything might not be as you think. What you thought was over… might not actually be over,” Kenta said, his eyes reflecting a deep, intense fear, as if just talking about this was enough to let terror gnaw at his mind. “The person you thought was dead… might not be dead.”

He didn’t even say the name, but a face flashed in my mind. The fear eating away at Kenta started to creep into me too. I swallowed hard. What he was saying sounded unbelievable, but at the same time, a quiet voice deep in my heart whispered that it wasn’t. This was the truth.

   It wasn’t that unbelievable.

We’ve never been able to get rid of that bastard.

“Tony doesn’t trust me like he used to, and I don’t want to work for him anymore. But I can’t get out yet. Right now, I have to find a way to be free.”

Kenta stared at me openly. This was probably the first time I truly saw his soul, felt words coming from his mind, and sensed emotions straight from his heart—not just orders programmed into his system like before.

“I don’t know if that thing will help me, but I don’t have any other options right now. I have to try every possible way, as fast and quiet as I can.”

   I didn’t know anything.

All I knew was… I wanted to believe him.

“So please…” Kenta whispered with pleading eyes, “keep this a secret. I swear I won’t cause trouble for you or your friends. Just let me handle my business.”

Maybe I needed to try something beyond my own expectations.

“Fine,” I said. Kenta let out a huge sigh of relief. “But you have to let me see it too.”

   “Huh?”

His briefly relaxed expression turned tense again.

“That thing in the safe. You have to show me what it is. And from now on, I’ll be watching your every move. If you try anything shady, I’ll deal with you immediately.”

His face made it clear he wasn’t thrilled with the proposal, but I stood firm. If he didn’t agree, this wouldn’t stay a secret between us anymore.

   “Ugh, fine, do whatever.”

And so, our deal was sealed in Phii Alan’s showroom, effective from that moment to the present.

“From now on, contact me anytime, or Ken if you prefer, okay?”

“Yeah,” I nodded halfheartedly before shutting the door in the faces of Winner and Kenta, who had suddenly shown up at my house and thrown an earth-shattering proposal at me without mercy.

I dragged my feet back to collapse onto the living room sofa, leaning back against the cushions, utterly drained, even though I hadn’t done anything since waking up besides talking to those two.

That Charlie has pissed off a lot of big shots, even if it’s not Tony. If he doesn’t stop, it won’t be long before someone else orders him taken out. How generous of Tony to even offer him this deal.

That kid’s stubborn as hell, but if it’s you, he’ll listen. It might take some time, but I think it’s worth it.

“Tony doesn’t want a repeat of last time. Your side lost, my side lost too. But think about it—if you can just convince Charlie, everyone stays safe. No one gets hurt, no one’s in trouble, and you’ll get your boyfriend back. What’s there to hesitate about? Are you really okay letting others do whatever they want to Charlie when you have a way to protect him?”

And so much more—Winner threw out every argument he could to persuade me to accept the deal. Not every sentence won me over, but I had to admit the overall message softened me. Even though I knew this was an offer from the person I despised most in the world, just the thought of working with Tony made me loathe myself. But if I turned away and let this go, I might carry guilt for the rest of my life. If I ended up losing Charlie for real…

I couldn’t say how much of what Winner said was true, but one thing was certain: those bastards definitely wanted to eliminate Charlie. His goals clearly clashed with their interests. The more Charlie put himself in the spotlight, using the media to openly attack them, the dumber it would be for them to let him roam free. Sooner or later, those scumbags would find a way to deal with him.

That’s why I chose to accept the offer, even though it went against my principles.

From now on, I just had to try to make Charlie give up on that project. I’d never seriously tried persuading him before—only sulking and feeling neglected because he prioritized it over me. That approach probably wouldn’t sway him. Someone as logical as Charlie would likely respond better to empathy. Or at the very least, if I could talk to him calmly, he might change his mind.

If I could get Charlie to change his mind, everything would go back to normal. He’d come back to me, and we’d live together peacefully every day. No more Tony or anyone else stirring up trouble in our lives. And this deal between me and Tony would be buried forever, never reaching Charlie’s ears.

That was my intention and my hope. But signs of a major shift started just days after the agreement.

   “There’s something you should know.”

Kenta showed up at my place again, this time alone. No loudmouth Winner tagging along. His cautious demeanor suggested he’d come to see me by himself on purpose, not because Winner or the other lackeys were unavailable.

“I don’t know if what you chose was right or not, and I’m not here to steer you either. I’m just telling you this because I think you might be able to use it.”
