Pitbabe S2, Chapter 36 pg 6
We both threw a “Huh?” at each other. Kenta stared at me like he’d seen a ghost. Of course—he’d probably tossed out that question to catch me off guard for fun. But when I answered instantly, he was the one left dumbfounded, looking all flustered. As for me, I played dumb just to tease him.
Take that, you sneak-attack lover.
“What’s that mean?” Kenta asked softly, his face still showing unrecovered shock. With his current scruffy cat-like state, that expression only made him look funnier.
“What?” I pretended to be clueless.
“You said maybe—”
“Uh-huh.”
“Maybe what?”
“Maybe I do like you.”
“Huh?”
Kenta is hilarious. He gets more confused every time I answer his questions, even though I think I’m being crystal clear. Why does he act like it’s so hard to understand?
Or does he think I’m too dense to notice?
Come on… even a dog could tell he likes me.
“How?” Kenta still plays the clueless kid. “How could you like me?”
“And why couldn’t I like you?”
“You can, but you act like you don’t.”
“Where do I act like I don’t?”
The clueless kid freezes when I turn the question back on him. It’s like he’s been so busy questioning others that he never had time to answer his own. Right now, Kenta’s head must be spinning with a flood of images and reasons he’s overlooked, all while assuming I’m the idiot who never gets anything.
He’s the idiot.
“You think I’d let just anyone move into my house?” I ask him seriously. “Let them bring their stuff, live here, have their own room, learn to cook just to make food for you, take care of you when you’re sick—why do you think I do all that?”
“I just thought…”
Kenta is really clueless.
“Thought what?”
“…Thought you were just being nice.”
“I’m nice to people I like.”
Honestly, it’s kind of embarrassing. I never imagined I’d be saying this to him today, especially not in a setting with zero romance. A messy kitchen, a wannabe chef just as messy—this is the worst moment for a love confession.
But whatever. All those “perfect” moments in the past never got anyone to open their mouth anyway.
“I had no idea…” Kenta says softly.
“That’s because you’re clueless.”
“You’re the clueless one.”
“I’m not clueless. I’ve known for ages that you like me.”
“What! Then why didn’t you say anything!?”
It looks like it’ll take a while longer for us to see eye to eye. For someone raised to follow orders their whole life, never experiencing a bond rooted in genuine emotions, it must be hard for him to grasp that he, too, can be loved. Receiving consistent care, concern given without asking or needing to give anything back—there’s so much he needs to learn and get used to. And I’ll have to bear the heavy role for a bit longer, because I’ve already decided: everything he’s never had, I’ll be the one to give him.
“When you make that sad face thinking I don’t like you, it’s kinda funny.”
“You jerk, Kim…”
Since I’ve already taken in this stray cat, I guess I have no choice but to take good care of him, right?
DEAN:
“How’s it look… did I pass?”
Phii Alan’s face when he saw me step out of the car was hilarious—his enthusiasm was so bright it hurt my eyes. His overly excited, fidgety demeanor kinda ruined his captain vibe, but judging by his attitude, he probably didn’t care about that right now.
“If I said you didn’t pass, would you drop dead from shock, Phii Alan?”
“I’m already shocked,” the X Team captain’s face soured when he heard me. “It’s no good?”
“It’s good…”
“See!”
He didn’t even let me finish my sentence.
“I told you to trust me. That stubborn Jeff!”
