Special Chapter 5: Home, Sweet Home
“Coming back early today, right?”
“Yeah… gotta head back early today. It’s little Moon’s birthday.”
“How old is little Moon today?”
“One year exactly.”
“Wow… that’s crazy fast.”
“Super-fast…”
“Then tell little Moon that Uncle Pi says Happy Birthday!”
“Just a Happy Birthday? What about a gift for your nephew?”
“Gift’s on hold for now. I will buy one later.”
The conversation between Panli and his close business partner from earlier, before returning home, floated back into his mind. Panli smiled as he got out of the car.
Even though today was Little Moon’s birthday, Papa had to attend a meeting with the partner about the new clothing collection, Once in a Blue Moon, since morning. But he tried to rush through work as quickly as possible to come back and celebrate his beloved son’s birthday.
The tall figure strode into the house, a bright smile spreading across his face when he saw Little Moon, now grown quite big, running toward him. But that smile slowly faded as his mischievous son suddenly stopped in his tracks and ran back to someone who had just come down the stairs.
Papa Panli became “Papa Left Hanging.”
“Why did you run back to me? Go to Papa, little one.”
Panli stood watching Mama Klaijai talk and play with their precious son. Then, Klaijai leaned down to lovingly nuzzle Moon’s nose. After receiving affection from Mama, the cheeky Moon finally ran back to Papa Panli.
“Woof!”
Moon stopped in front of him and barked in protest when Papa didn’t bend down to hug him as usual. Panli admitted he felt a bit hurt by his son, but he couldn’t stay firm for long. That clingy son of his kept sending him those pleading, puppy-dog eyes.
Panli crouched down to hug Little Moon, saying, “Doesn’t that make you feel a bit guilty?”
“…”
“You were all set to run to me nicely… but as soon as you heard Mama coming down the stairs.”
“…”
“You rushed back to cling to Mama like there was no tomorrow.”
“Woof! Woof!”
“I’m telling the truth, and you’re still arguing.”
Panli spoke with a hint of sulkiness, but he wasn’t truly upset with his son. Papa understood his son’s feelings all too well—how wonderful it felt to receive love from Mama Klaijai. So it was no surprise that Moon hurried back to soak up that affection from Mama first.
Besides Papa, who loved Mama Klaijai so much,
There was probably Little Moon, who loved Mama Klaijai just as much.
Panli let go of the hug and stood to his full height as his lover came to stand in front of him. Klaijai gave a small smile while looking at him and Little Moon.
“Don’t feel too hurt, Papa.”
“…”
“Even if Little Moon is super attached to me… he loves you a whole lot too.”
“Yeah, I know… but that scene just now is still stuck in my head.”
