Special Chapter 5 pg 2
Klaijai laughed heartily before saying, “you just came back tired, so go rest first. I’ll get you some water.”
“Okay…” Panli nodded, then looked down at little Moon sitting with his tongue out. “…Let’s go, Little Moon. Come sit on the sofa with Papa.”
“Woof!”
My son…
So smart…
Panli plopped down on the long sofa, and soon Little Moon climbed up to lie beside him. A thick hand reached out to stroke the brown fur of his beloved son with affection. Not long after, Mama Klaijai brought a white tray with a glass of cold water and a plate of snacks, placing it on the coffee table.
“Cold water,” Klaijai said as he handed the glass over. Panli took it and gulped it down immediately before placing it back on the table.
“Cold water can’t refresh me as much as my wife’s cheeks.” After saying this, Panli leaned in, pressing his nose to kiss his beloved Theerak’s cheek with a loud smack, then continued, “Now this… this is truly refreshing.”
“Really, Papa Li!”
“Woof!”
“Papa’s so naughty, isn’t she, Little Moon?”
“Woof!”
“If you keep teasing Papa… no cake for you today,” Auntie said, raising a finger to scold her son. Moon, sensing he was being reprimanded, rested his face on Auntie’s lap. Panli smiled amusedly before lovingly patting his son’s head.
“You scold him and then spoil him… That’s why Moon’s never afraid of you, Auntie.”
“I don’t want my son to be afraid of me…
“…”
“I just want Little Moon to listen sometimes.”
“Does Little Moon listen to you, Papa?”
Panli gave a dry smile before saying, “Not really… not at all.”
Klaijai shook his head and chuckled softly before saying, “Alright, you play with Little Moon for now, Papa. I’ll go start cooking.”
“Okay…”
The petite figure stood up to his full height, preparing to cook for Little Moon’s birthday party. But then, as if remembering something, he turned back to look at him.
“Papa Li…”
“Yeah…”
“I ordered a cake for the dog too… They’ll deliver it to the house soon, so please be ready to receive it, Papa.”
“Alright.”
“And don’t give in and let Little Moon eat it early.”
Panli chuckled softly before saying, “Okay…”
“Woof!”
“You too, Little Moon… No begging for the cake early.”
“Woof!”
Mama Klai gave a small smile before heading to the kitchen. Now, Panli was left with Little Moon. His thick hand reached for the remote to turn on the TV. Normally, in the afternoons at home, our leisure activity is watching a movie together.
Papa Li and Mama Klai would sit close. Panli would drape one arm around his small shoulders, and Klai would lean his head against his shoulder. As for Little Moon, he’d sprawl across both of their laps, letting Mama Klai pet his head until he dozed off.
This is the atmosphere in this house…
Almost every day…
But at this moment, the doorbell rang. Little Moon, who was lying beside, jumped off the sofa and ran outside immediately. Panli quickly followed his boy. He saw a man standing at the gate, holding an opaque white bag. Panli guessed it was probably the messenger delivering Little Moon’s cake.
“Hello, sir. I’ve brought the dog cake for delivery.”
“Alright, thank you.”
“Woof!”
“I know, Little Moon.”
Panli opened the gate and took the cake bag from the delivery man, then asked, “Do I need to pay anything extra?”
“Oh, no need, sir.”
“Okay, thank you very much.”
“You’re welcome.”
Panli gave a slight nod before turning to walk back into the house. Along the way, his little boy followed closely, wagging his tail rapidly, which told Panli that Little Moon was feeling excited. He stopped at the living room table near the front of the house, placed the cake bag down, and opened the paper box. He then looked down at Little Moon, who was staring back at him.
“I know we shouldn’t break Mama’s rules.”
“...”
“But, you know, guys... sometimes we gotta bend them a bit.”
“Woof!”
After finishing his sentence, Panli swiped a small bit of cake frosting from the side with his finger and fed it to his boy. Little Moon eagerly licked the frosting off Panli’s finger. But once the finger no longer had any new flavors to offer, Little Moon jumped at Panli, begging for more cake.
“No more, buddy...”
“...”
“Rules are meant to be broken, sure... but just a little, okay?”
“...”
“Because if I let you break too many rules, I’ll be the one getting my chest ripped open.”
“Woof! Woof!”
“Getting upset and barking now...” Panli said with a chuckle before leading his boy back into the house.
Klaijai, who had just walked out of the kitchen, asked, “Has the cake been delivered?”
“Yes.”
