The Next Prince, Special Chapter 3 pg2
Khanin walked slowly down the aisle, playing a soft and slow melody. The atmosphere was filled with love as they shared a tender gaze. This brought smiles to everyone, making it impossible for them not to join in.
“Congratulations.”
“Congratulations...Woops, sorry.”
“Congratulations to you too, Nin.”
“Congratulations!”
“Congratulations, Phii Khanin.”
“Congratulations, Khana!”
Khanin walked confidently, with only his father’s hands to hold onto as he trembled slightly. The young man looked around before turning to thank the guests who had come to witness the event.
The group of friends in London, some of whom were close but hadn’t seen each other in a long time, friends in the fencing association, and the indispensable people from EM, Mali, and Lee who had been together through thick and thin, were mostly members of the fencing team: Chakri, close friend the Butler, Eve, Ramil, and Petai. The only missing person was Prince Kalavin-Li, who was working on important missions, but he sent huge gifts to each other.
“We the two dads are here to tell you this... Charan, take care of our child.”
Khanin felt a surge of emotion as he stepped forward to the ceremonial dais where Tanattai was already talking to the groom who was standing and waiting. Meanwhile, Khanin’s husband slowly picked up the flower arrangement from his hands and handed it over to his friend before turning to face and receiving the words.
“With pleasure.”
“If you have any problems, talk about them and console each other. If you can’t solve them, we can tell you about it. For now, we all consider ourselves... as your fathers, Charan.” said Tarin, warmly and without any airs of grandeur. Although the end of the sentence wasn’t confident, the couple accepted his words with gratitude.
After the goodbyes, both dads went back to their seats, and the ceremony started with the groomsmen showing respect to each other. Then, the representative spoke words of love and began to give advice and blessings in their own language.
“Khalil Gibran said about marriage...
Love one another, but make not a bond of love,
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone.
Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together.
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.
And remember to give more than you receive.
For love and kindness are the only things that truly last.
And stand steadfast with each other, yet not too close.
For the roots of the trees may grow together, but the branches must remain apart.
When the decision is made, let us honor it together.
Fill in the missing piece, but don’t get too close to walking on each other’s paths.
Love and adore the other, always like the day we first fell in love. Then the couple, Charan Phitakthewa and Khanin Atsawathewathin, will be happy forever.”
“...”
“The time has come for the two of you to walk together on a new path. Let everyone here witness the love of the two of you, especially Charan Phitakthewa. Will you take Khanin Atsawathewathin to be your husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse?”
“I will.” Charan replied, his thick hand gently holding the other’s slender one.
Khanin returned the gesture, trying to hold back his tears as the overwhelming emotion bubbled up within him.
“Khanin Atsawathewathin, will you take Charan Phitakthewa to be your husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse?”
“I will.” By this point, Khanin could no longer contain his emotions, and tears silently streamed down his face. Charan himself was visibly moved, doing the same.
Perhaps both sides knew all too well the countless trials and tribulations they had overcome to get to where they were today, and how lucky they were to have found love in each other.
“So let everyone here help witness the love of both of you, through thick and thin, whether in hardship or happiness. Charan and Khanin will always be there for each other...and I wish both of you happiness.” The sentence was spoken in English to ensure that Khanin’s friend, who was not fluent in the local language, could understand the joining of both the grooms. At the end, Charan stepped forward and whispered a warm blessing as a gift to both of them.
“Thank you, Your Majesty / Your Majesty is gracious.”
Charan and Khanin expressed their gratitude to the people in front of them simultaneously; there were no words better than these. After the wedding ceremony went smoothly, experienced friends acted as representatives to congratulate them.
“If so, let’s seal it with a kiss.” The declaration of love came with a soft, lingering kiss at the edge of their lips, as Khanin’s hands widely encompassed the broad shoulders of his husband and Charan hugged the slender waist of his young partner.
“I love you so much, Nin.”
