My Moon, Chapter 31 pg 3
“Okay, dear...” she replied before turning to look at him. “Let’s go, Klai.”
“Yes, Mama,” Klai responded.
As soon as Klai answered, Mama took his hand and led him to the kitchen. He widened his eyes slightly when he saw the spacious kitchen. Three maids dressed in matching cream-colored uniforms bowed their heads to the two of them before walking out.
Klai stopped in front of the counter with Mama. She placed a jar of cookies on the marble countertop, let go of his hand, and said, “Come on, Klai, let’s prepare some snacks for Auntie and Panli.”
“Yes, Mama,” he replied, taking a gold-rimmed porcelain plate from her.
Klai admitted he still felt a bit nervous. Even though Mama was kind and very approachable, it was probably because this was their first time meeting. But Klai was determined to make his lover’s parents fond of him.
“I think... just Phii Jeab’s butter cookies as a snack should be enough, right?”
Klai shifted his gaze from the porcelain plate and looked up at her. “Mama, you know...”
“I know,” Mama said with a smile, opening the cookie jar and placing some on the plate in front of him. “And I also know Poj and Ms. Lin.”
“...”
“Because before we met, Panli kept talking about you to his Papa and me all day long.”
“...” Klai stayed silent, watching Mama arrange the cookies on the plate. She spoke with gentle eyes and a soft tone.
“Panli said that you are adorable, polite, and very gentle. But some days, you can be a naughty little rabbit...”
“...”
“And when you are a naughty rabbit, the puppy completely loses to you.”
Klai couldn’t help but smile. He hadn’t expected Panli to share this story with Auntie and Mama too. “...”
“Panli told me everything...” Mama placed the last cookie on the plate and looked up to meet his eyes before continuing, “...everything about you.”
“Because Panli wanted his Papa and me to know... just how adorable his beloved is.”
“...”
“But there’s one thing Panli didn’t tell us...”
“...”
“Panli didn’t say how much he loves you ...” Mama gave a warm smile and gently took his hand. “Even though he didn’t say it, I know Panli loves you so much... Do you know why?”
“...”
“Because of the way his eyes look when he talks about you, they’re filled with so much love.”
“...”
“At that moment, I sat and wondered... how much must one person love another for those feelings to shine through their eyes like that?”
“...”
“I’ve never seen Panli like this before...” Mom paused, holding his gaze, before continuing, “...Klaijai, can you stay as Panli’s happiness for a long, long time?”
“...”
“And can you also become another son of our Pisut family?”
If having Panli by his side was a dream, what Mom was asking for now was beyond a dream. Yet, the warm touch of Mom’s hand holding his reminded him that everything was real, much like the warm embrace of Panli that reaffirmed...
Everything,
Every moment,
Was not a dream...
“Yes, Mom... I will be Panli’s happiness for a very long time.”
“...”
“As for your request for me to become another son of the Pisut family...”
“...”
“In truth, I should be the one thanking you, Mom... for showing me such kindness.”
“...”
“Thank you, Mom, for allowing me to become a part of the Pisut family...” Klaijai paused briefly, then offered a gentle smile, “...and thank you for allowing me to love Panli.”
“My dear Klaijai...”
Mom spoke softly before pulling him into an embrace. Klaijai smiled and hugged her back. Mom gently rubbed his back before saying...
“You’ve been through so much, my child. But from now on... let’s start anew together.”
After hearing Ma’s words, Klai could only nod in response. Perhaps because he hadn’t expected to receive this much love, he was caught off guard by the sudden swell of emotion in his heart.
Ma’s words, her gaze, her embrace, and the love she gave him were like medicine that healed the wounds of his past. A heart once broken and incomplete was now made whole again by the Pisut family…
And from now on,
Klai believed…
“Thank you again, Ma.”
This heart would never shatter again.
After Klai finished preparing snacks with Ma, he brought out a plate of cookies and sweet drinks for the father and son who were chatting happily in the living room. Ma stayed in the kitchen to show off her skills by preparing dinner. So, Klai joined the father and son instead.
At first, Klai thought he might not connect as smoothly with Pa as he did with Ma. Pa seemed playful and humorous, but Klai often struggled to keep up with other people’s jokes. If Pa threw a joke his way and he didn’t get it, Klai thought… it’d probably be pretty awkward.
But everything turned out differently than he expected. No matter what joke Pa made, Klai understood them all, and he could laugh without forcing it. Klai could hardly believe how well they got along.
And when Klai looked at Pa… he felt like he was seeing Panli forty or fifty years into the future.
Pa was Panli in an older version.
And if that was truly the case,
In forty or fifty years…
Klai was still as happy as he was now.
