My Moon, Chapter 9 pg 5

My Moon, Chapter 9 pg 5

[Oh… got it. I’ll call Panli for you. Normally, he’d still be at the uni around this time.]

“…” He couldn’t tell Phii Dom that he was already waiting for Panli at the parking lot. It’d raise suspicions about how he knew Panli parked there regularly.

[I’ll hang up now and call Panli first, okay?]

   “Yes, Phii Dom.”

After hanging up with his older brother, Klai sat waiting in the car for several minutes before an unfamiliar number called. He assumed it was his brother’s other phone, as Phii Dom used two phones, and Klai hadn’t saved his brother’s new number.

   “Hello?”

   [Yes, hello.]

   That voice...

   “Uh, Panli?”

   Thump, thump, thump, thump.

   [Yes, it’s me.]

   “...”

[Phii Dom called and said you wanted to talk to me.]

   “...”

[What did you want to talk about?]

“Um... I wanted to return your shirt, Panli. So I was wondering if you’re still at the university. That’s why I called Phii Dom instead, since I didn’t know how to contact you.”

Klai heard a soft chuckle from the other end.

[This is my number, okay? From now on, if you want to meet or talk to me, you can call me directly. No need to go through Phii Dom.]

   “Oh, okay.”

[But I’ve already left the university. I had to rush out to buy soccer cleats since I have a match tomorrow.]

   “Oh...”

[Where’s you right now? Waiting for me somewhere?]

Klaijai, don’t answer yet. Think carefully first. “I’m not waiting for you anywhere. I’m about to drive out of the university. I just saw the shirt and thought of you. I figured if you were still on campus, I’d swing by to return it.”

   Good, good, nice answer, Klaijai.

   Nothing suspicious at all...

   But wait a second...

[Oh... saw the shirt and thought of me?]

   Ugh... slipped up again.

How do I respond to that...

“I wasn’t thinking of you like that, I was just thinking about the owner of the shirt…”

   Hold on, Klaijai… calm down.

   […]

“No, no, I meant I thought the shirt must be missing its owner.”

[…I’ll just assume both the borrower and the shirt miss me then.]

Moon is starting to know too much!

   “…”

   [KhunKlai… are you free tomorrow?]

   “Tomorrow?”

   [Yes.]

   “Hold on a sec, Panli.”

   [Okay.]

Klai reached for the small notebook on the car’s console to check his class schedule. Tomorrow, he had no classes. Klai furrowed his brows slightly while thinking if he had any make-up classes.

   “I’m free tomorrow, Panli.”

[Can you return the shirt to me at the football field?]

   “Sure.”

[Okay, I’ll send you the location.]

   “Oh.”

[KhunKlai… can I have your LINE ID?]

For the first time, Klai forgot his own LINE ID. It took him almost a minute to recall it. He wasn’t mad at himself for forgetting it at that moment, because the person he’d been secretly crushing on for so long had asked for his LINE first.

   Others might not be shocked.

   But Klaijai was shocked…

   “G L A I J A I… and then add one dot.”

Klai heard the person on the other end softly repeat it.

   [So it’s Klaijai…]
