 Pitbabe S2, Chapter 37 pg 1

   BABE:

   Silence

   “Charlie.”

No response from the glasses-wearing kid I was calling.

   “Pfft.”

“If you don’t take it back, we’re done talking.”

I was speechless, mouth gaping, staring at the sulky kid, unable to believe he was this serious about something so trivial from half an hour ago.

   “Don’t be ridiculous, Charlie.”

“How can you say that to me, Babe?” Charlie spun around, glaring at me like I’d just said something catastrophic enough to wipe out humanity.

   “Because you’re sulking over nothing.”

“Hey!” The more I spoke, the louder he got. “When you get sulky, I’ve never called you ridiculous.”

“That’s because I don’t sulk over stupid stuff.”

“Oh, wow,” he said, eyes wide as goose eggs. “You really said that.”

   “What?”

“You’re the king of sulking over nonsense.”

   “Now you’re insulting me!”

   “You insulted me first.”

With that, he turned away again. Lately, Charlie’s been sulking at me way too much. Back in the day, sulking was my thing. How did he come back this time and just steal my role like it’s nothing? Does this mean I’m supposed to be the one coaxing him now?

   Should I sulk back?

   “Alright, alright… Charlie.”

Just saying that for now—better to coax him first. If I sulk back and he doesn’t budge, it’ll be an even bigger mess. These days, Charlie’s got some serious attitude.

“Fine, I take it back. That guy’s not hot at all. Not my type one bit. Just average, okay? Doesn’t even compare to a speck of you.”

The sulky kid seemed to soften a tiny bit when he heard the keywords he wanted. Charlie glanced at me, lips still pursed in displeasure, but at least his tone wasn’t as confrontational as before.

“Then why’d you say he was your type earlier?”

   “I was just saying stuff.”

“But your face looked like you really liked him.”

“Why do you care so much? He’s a celebrity, dude. It’s not like if I like him, he’s gonna like me back.”

“So, if he did like you back, you’d go for it?”

   “Huh?”

“With so many celebrities crushing on Babe.”

Talk about turning a disaster into a full-blown catastrophe. I really wasn’t born to sweet-talk anyone. Back when I never bothered, it was because no one made me feel like I wanted to. But now that I’ve got someone I want to win over, I’m finding it’s way harder than I thought. Not only did I fail to make him stop sulking, I made him sulk even more.
